Trustees Visit to Malimba 2010

We arrived on the Monday morning straight for the little airstrip at Umfuwe. The school is only minutes for the airport and Julie picked us up. Off we went in time for lunch. As we drove up the rough dirt track drive we had the first sighting of Jo Jo’s dining hall. A good sight to see after so much hard work through the previous year from so many people to raise the money. It certainly brought a lump to the throat.
We were greeted with great enthusiasm and were in time for some lunch which was the basic mele meal but in fact very tasty! Because they cannot accommodate all, the children at once there is a morning and afternoon session, so we were able to catch a bit of both. Andrew, the assistant Head, was a very charming and efficient host who walked and talked us through all three of the classrooms. At the end of our tour Peter the Headmaster sat us down in his tiny study between the two classrooms (which doubled up as a store room) and gave us an update on all the happenings thorough the year. Through the funding of Make Me smile, the school has a new sports kit. This was an enormous excitement and boost to what is a small but thriving school. Thanks to all who have helped Make Me Smile to exist.
